Kathmandu – Tashi Tshiring Dong won the third edition of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal at the Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday. Playing with one handicap Tashi carded six-under 66 nett. He carded birdies on the third, fourth, ninth, 10th and 12th holes additionally sank an eagle on the seventh hole against a double-bogey on the 17th hole.
AIG Hari Bahadur Pal and Dr Sameer Aryal were tied for second place with a score of four-under 68 nett. Hari finished runner-up on the count-back system with the back nine net scores of 33.5 against 34 of Sameer using their respective handicap.
Tashi Tshiring bagged the best gross award due to a rule – one player, one major prize-, he carded a round of four under 68 gross, and Tashi Tshiring Dong had produced a card of five under 67. In the junior section, Ashray Basnyat shot a five-under 67 nett to win over his twin-brother Sayan Basnyat, who had produced a card of three-under 69 nett.
Altogether, 44 players participated in the tournament sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd. Senior Golf Director of Gokarna Forest Resort, Deepak Acharya handed the trophies to the winners.
After the third edition, Tashi Tshiring Dong is leading the nett club championship with 140 points, Umesh Jung Thapa is second with 115 points, Sumed Bhattarai is third with 100, Pawan Bista and Sumod Bastakoti are tied fourth with 70. Tashi Tshiring is sixth with 65, Dr Bhagwan Koirala and AIG Hari Bahadur Pal are tied for seventh with 60, Pradip KC is ninth with 55 and Pavitra Kumar Karki and Karna Bahadur Thapa are tied for 10th place with 40 points.
On the gross section also Tashi Thsiring Dong is leading the field with 220 points, Tashi Tshiring is second with 200, Wangchen Dhondup is third with 180, Vijay Shrestha Einhaus with fourth with 70, and Rabindra Tiwari is fifth with 35.
A total of 10 medal rounds will be played before selecting the top 40 from nett section and the top 20 from the gross section for the final two rounds to decide the club champion on nett and gross category.
