Kathmandu – Spikers Shanti Tharu and Kamana Bista have made their debut in the national women’s volleyball team of Nepal during the AVC Asian Central Zone Women’s and Men’s Volleyball Championship underway in Bangladesh. They were present in the team that beat Sri Lanka in 3-2 sets during the opening match on Thursday.
Kamana Bista played the first set of the match while Shanti Tharu took her place in their debut match. Both the players were included in the national team for the first time. Bista plays for Nepal Police Club while Tharu is associated with another departmental team – Tribhuvan Army Club in domestic matches.
Although Nepal had lost the first two sets to Sri Lanka during the opening match on Thursday, they bounced back to win the remaining three sets for a 3-2 win. Nepal lost the first two sets 19-25 and 21-25 and won the remaining three sets with a scoreline of 25-15, 25-19, 15-13.
The women’s team will face the Maldives in their next match on Friday and the hosts Bangladesh on Saturday. Nepal’s last match is against Uzbekistan.
