Kathmandu (Hamro Khelkud) – Nepal number one badminton player Ratnajit’s journey in the Men’s Single of Yonex US Open has ended in the very first round of the tournament.
In the match held last night, 211st ranked Ratnajit lost 21-18, 21-12 to Canada’s Jason Anthony who is ranked 175th in the world. Last year in his first participation, Ratnajit had qualified up to the Round of 16. Ratnajit has remained the national champion for 6 years. After recently winning the men’s single in both Annapurna International Corporate Badminton and Pushpalal Memorial Badminton, he had departed to take part in the US Open.
Ratnajit has won 20 singles title in his career. Last year, the gold medal he had won in the mixed doubles pairing up with sister Nangsal Devi Tamang in the Pakistan International Badminton remains the biggest achievement for Nepali Badminton.
