Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Prince Dahal, formerly ranked No. 1 in the junior world badminton rankings, has secured his spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first Nepali badminton player to do so.
The 19-year-old will compete in the Olympics through the Universality Quota, as confirmed by the World Badminton Federation (BWF) in a statement released on Saturday.
In the badminton category, athletes were vying for 166 regular quota spots (83 men and 83 women), along with 3 universality quota spots and one Olympic refugee quota spot.
Universality spots are designated to provide athletes from nations with limited representation the opportunity to participate in the Olympics. Among the three badminton players chosen worldwide for the universality quota, Prince earned his selection based on his past achievements.
Having consistently claimed titles in Nepali domestic badminton, Prince has eyed the Olympics for quite some time.
