Police, Army off to winning start in PM Cup volleyball

Kathmandu – The eighth edition of Sagarmatha Cement Prime Minister Cup International Invitational Women’s Volleyball Championship kicked off in Nepalgunj on Thrusday. Nepal Police Club and Tribhuvan Army Club emerged victorious in the opening day matches held at the covered hall of Nepalgunj Stadium.

Nepal Police Club defeated Lumbini United in straight sets in the opening match. Police saw off the home side 25-14, 25-13, and 25-9. Manisha Chaudhary of Police was adjudged the player of the match.

In another match, Army bounced back from a second set defeat to beat New Diamond Academy 3-1 in an entertaining match. Army registered a 25-15, 27-29, 25-17, and 25-22 win over New Diamond. Army’s Safia Pun was adjudged the player of the match.

The PM Cup was inaugurated earlier by Minister for Youth and Sports Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj by handing over the ball to international referee Gautam Prasad Lasiba.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Gahatraj said that the government has kept the PM Cup in its top priority.
