Kathmandu – Nepal Police Club (NPC) bagged the title of second Krishna Bhattarai Memorial Karate Championship claiming 15 medals. NPC won 10 golds, 2 silvers, and 3 bronze medals.
With 14 medals including 6 golds, 3 silvers and 5 bronze, Nepal APF Club came second while Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) finished third earning 13 medals that include 1 gold, 5 silvers, and 7 bronze medals.
The final day of the championship had five events, with NPC winning 2 golds and APF earning 3 at Karate Academy Hall in Satdobato.
The 13th South Asian Games (SAG) gold medalist Sunita Maharjan of NPC came first in Women’s -65 KG Kumite thrashing Binita Shrestha of Bagmati Province 9-1 in the day’s first final. Diana Ojha from APF and Madhesh’s Monika Magar won third place in the same event.
Also, Nabin Rasaili, a 13th SAG Gold Medalist from NPC, outplayed TAC’s Sunny Chaulagain in the day’s second final. Nima Sherpa and Pratik Gharti Magar claimed bronze in the Men’s 67 KG Kumite event.
The third final of the day saw APF’s Manisha Chaudhary defeating Barsha Budha Magar 7-5 in Women’s 55 KG to win fourth gold for APF. Later, Manisha Chaudhary was adjudged Best Women’s Player of the tournament. With Barsha bagging the silver, Sarada Sunuar and Bidhyakala Rai won bronze medals.
Mohammad Sekhu Alam won the 5th gold medal for APF beating Gandaki’s Bishal Thapa Magar 3-1 in the final of Men’s 85 KG Kumite where Swikar Rai and Nikesh Manandhar came third.
APF’s Subas Ghatani concluded the championship by winning gold in Men’s 75 KG Kumite defeating Sajol Budhathoki of Gandaki Province by 6-4. Rurihang Dhami and Aakash Mandal bagged bronze.
With Manisha being adjudged the Best Female Player, Biplav Lal Shrestha was named the Best Male player of the tournament. Both the best players were rewarded with NRs. 15,000 each along with a trophy.
The champion team Nepal Police Club reived 1 Lakh rupees and the runners-up Armed Police Force pursed 50 thousand. The Member of Parliament Gagan Kumar Thapa, Member of Provincial Assembly (Bagmati) Min Krishna Maharjan, Godawari Municipality Mayor Gajendra Maharjan, and others felicitated the winners.
Seven provinces and three departmental teams competed in the second edition of the Krishna Bhattarai Memorial Karate Championship organized by Godawari Municipality.
