By a Staff Reporter

Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Nepal’s squad for the upcoming CAVA Women’s Nations League in Kathmandu has been finalized. Head coach Jagadish Bhatta has selected a well-rounded team for the tournament.

Middle blocker Sumitra Regmi and spiker Aarati Subedi have been included in the national team for the first time. Sumitra, who began her career just two years ago with training from New Diamond, has quickly made an impact on domestic volleyball. Aarati’s journey to the national team has been longer, as she missed out during the 13th South Asian Games in 2019 but has now made it into the side after five years.

The tournament will take place from August 1-7 at the covered hall in Dasharath Stadium, with five countries, including Nepal, competing. The team, led by captain Aruna Shahi includes Saraswati Chaudhary, Salina Shrestha, Sofia Pun, Niruta Thagunna, Sangam Mahato, Punam Chand, Kamana Bista, and Usha Bhandari. The squad also includes libero Shantikala Tamang, middle blocker Kabita Bhatta, and young setter Pragati Nath.

Jagadish Bhatta is supported by assistant coaches Bharat Yadav and Rupesh Bista, while former player and association member Neelam Bajracharya serves as the team manager.

The initial selection was based on performances in the 8th Prime Minister’s Cup NVA League, with the final team chosen after various stages. Rima Kunwar and Pooja Chaudhary, who were part of last year’s CAVA Nations Challenge Cup team, are not included this time. Star spiker Pratibha Mali also remains absent as she continues her recovery from an injury.
