The Kaya U-16 Cup, a seven-a-side futsal tournament organized by Kaya Sports, will take place in the first week of December.
Kaya Sports aims to help develop Nepali football from the grassroots level by hosting the U-16 Kaya Cup from December 17 to 20. This tournament is the first event under their ‘Kayapalat’ program. At a press conference, the organizers shared that the competition will follow a league-cum-knockout format, with 32 schools participating.
To give players more chances to play, each team in the tournament will have at least 3 matches. Pabin Karki, the founder of Kaya Sports, mentioned that the registration fee for each team is Rs 15,000, and so far, 16 teams have signed up.
The tournament will take place at the Chaur Recreation Center in Bansbari, Kathmandu, on a seven-a-side field. The 32 teams will be split into 8 groups, and the top 2 teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage. Group matches will be held on December 2 and 3, and the knockout rounds will take place on December 5.
To promote friendship among players and schools, organizers plan to hold a closing ceremony with a gala dinner on December 7. Additionally, co-organizer Bikalpa Kharel from Pana Nepal mentioned that there will be various activities to motivate the players.
Kaya Sports will also support the New Diamond Youth Sports Club, known for its achievements in Nepali women’s volleyball, as part of their social responsibility. Karki stated that although the focus is on the futsal tournament, they want to encourage New Diamond for their exemplary contributions to Nepali sports.
Karki added that they plan to support New Diamond not just for this tournament but in other events of the Kayapalat program as well.
