Kathmandu – Dinesh Prajapati and Ramesh Adhikari are set to meet in a title decider of the Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Thursday.
Nepal No. 1 Pro Sukra Bahadur Rai and second-ranked Bhuvan Nagarkoti were ruled out by Bhuwan Kumar Rokka (3/1) and Dhana Bahadur Thapa (3/2) respectively in the quarter-finals of the third event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2022-23 on Wednesday.
Likewise, Dinesh Prajapati sidelined third-ranked Jayaram Shrestha (3/2), and Ramesh Adhikari stunned Rabi Khadka (3/2) to advance to the semi-finals.
Seventh-ranked Dinesh then defeated eighth-ranked Dhana Bahadur Thapa (2/1), and No 13 Ramesh overcame No 10 Bhuwan Kumar Rokka (2/1) in the semi-finals to set the meetup in a title decider.
Dinesh and Ramesh will fight for the title in a 36-hole contest on Thursday. Moreover, Dhana and Bhuwan will play for third place over 18 holes.
Top 16 pros in Order of Merit of Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2021-22 qualified to participate in the Match Play. However, the PGA Nepal allowed players up to the top 20 as four pros are out of the country.
The tournament, organized by PGA Nepal under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd, carries a cash prize of Rs 250,000. The champion will receive Rs 60,000, while the runner-up will purse Rs 42,000. Third and fourth-placed pros will earn Rs 32,000 and Rs 24,000 respectively. Four losing quarter-finalists will get Rs 11,000 each, while the eight pros who were eliminated from the first round will receive Rs 6,000 each.
