Manita Shrestha Pradhan Eliminated In First Paris Olympics Fight

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) - The poor performance of Nepalese athletes at the Paris Olympics continues. Manita Shrestha Pradhan, competing in judo, has been eliminated in her first match. In the women's 57 kg category on Monday, Manita was defeated by Marica Perisic of Serbia via Ippon while lasting only 1 minute and 2 seconds on the mat. Despite being a silver medalist and a World Championship player with experience in many Asian-level competitions, Manita could not perform impressively today. Nepal's best performance in judo remains with Phupu Lamu Khatri, who competed in the Rio Olympics but didn't advance far. Nepali players to compete in Asian Cadet Judo Championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - An eight-member Nepali judo team has left for Thailand to take part in the Asian Cadet and Junior Judo Championship to be held from July 17-23.     The eight-member team includes four players and four officials including team leader and Nepal Judo Association President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya, who is also the education and coaching commission member of the Judo Union of Asia.Uttam Pradhan Shrestha will compete in the U-60 junior boys category while Tara Bahadur Bhujel will take part in the U-55 kg cadet boys section. Similarly, Devaki Maya Shrestha will represent Nepal in the U-52 kg girls section while her sister Nisha Shrestha compete in U-48 kg girls category. Para judo players mark World Environment Day

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal Deaf and Blind Para Judo Association marked the World Environment Day on June 5 by organizing various programmes. Officials of the association, para judo athletes, Austria’s Olympian Sabrina who featured in the mega sporting event four times and also scaled Mount Everest, were involved in the clean-up of the New Baneshwar-based hostel of Deaf School, Naxal. They also planted trees on the occasion, according to Dharma Kumar Shrestha, senior vice president of the association who is also the general secretary of Nepal Judo Association. The hostel has a judo hall where Olympian Sabrina briefed the para athletes about World Environment Day.

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Prashant Shrestha secured gold medal in the boys’ 40-50 kg category of deaf judo held under the Inter Deaf Judo Championship on Sunday. Likewise, Rishiman Shrama clinched gold in the boys’ 50-60 kg category during the match held in New Baneshwar. In the women’s section, Sony Shah won gold in 30-40 kg category. Other winners include Nirjala Khadka (women’s 40-50 kg), Yojana Sapkota (open category), Aarati Shah (women’s 50-60 kg A), Sushma Tamang (women’s 50-60 kg B) and Bhumika Karki (women’s 50-60 kg C). Kathmandu (Hamro Khelkud) - Nepal Judo Association will be organising the eighth edition of Ambika Bahadur Chhetri Memorial Open Judo Championship from August 11 to 13. The three-day long championship, which will be held at the Lumbini Hall in Satdobato, will see Men and Women taking part in eight age group categories each. The men’s category will feature below-55kg, below-60kg, below-66kg, below-73kg, below-81kg, below-90kg, below-100kg and above-100kg weight categories, while women judokas will compete in below-44kg, below-48kg, below-52kg, below-57kg, below-63kg, below-70kg, below-78kg and above-78kg weight sections. Manita bags bronze medal

Kathmandu (Hamro Khelkud) - Nepal's Manita Shrestha Pradhan has won a bronze medal in the ongoing 11th Asian cadet and 18th Asian Junior Judo Championship being held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Manita bagged the medal in the under 57 kg weight category where 10 players from 9 countries had participated. In the first bout, She defeated  India's Sabitri by gaining wazari in the golden score period. She then lost to Uzbekistan's Sanobar Sultonova in the second round. However, for the Bronze medal match, she defeated Tajikistan's Fazilat Gulboeva by ippon score then ensured the bronze medal through 3 wazari points against Uzbekistan's Amina Mamedova.
