Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Arika Gurung secured a silver medal in the women’s 68 kg weight category at the USA Open International Karate event held in Texas. Arika narrowly lost 3-2 to an American opponent in the final on Monday.
Prior to her silver medal achievement, Arika clinched the gold medal in the U-21 women’s 68 kg weight division.
Arika, who previously attained a silver medal at the 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) held in China last October, advanced to the final in both the open and U-21 categories above 68 kg.
Biplav Lal Shrestha’s journey in the weight category below 84 kg concluded in the semi-finals. Alongside Arika and Biplav Lal, Deepak Shrestha and Kushal Shrestha are serving as coaches during their participation in the USA event.
